Sick Arm

i recently quit, but for the past two years I worked in the Operating rooms/ morgue of the Mount Sinai Hospital here in Miami beach FL. I've always admired the human body, but this past two years experience while working in this place inspired me to make much, much better figurative and horror sculpture. My job was to clean the rooms after the surgery was done, needless to say, the rooms end up filled with parts of people's organs on the floors, as well as blood and bone chips everywhere, then if a person died, my job there would be to clean the blood and whatnot off their bodies and the jaw of a human being drops when one is dead, so the other part would be to close the dead person's mouth by tying the jaw to the top of the head with a piece of  gauze, and close the eyes, so like this, the body would look presentable for the rest of the family to see, if the person had any, i also would transport the diseased to their rooms. During my time working in the hospital i saw all types of diseases, cancers, accidents.. you name it, but one that really shocked me visually when i saw the case was the arm of a man whose skin was filled with pus and just absolutely rotten. I just want to point out that i do not feel happy that this was happening to the poor man, but i was glad to see such a thing, this piece was inspired by that and i finally feel like it is done, now that it is fully textured, hollowed and waiting to be fired.

Collaboration

In this collaboration project we are to make a kinetic sculpture piece. To make this happen, we decided that since the obvious would be to make some mechanical moving piece, so we would go the other way around and take advantage of mother nature; meaning we wanted to mix industrial and cultural materials with somethin real, and organic; something ancient that existed before we were born or anybody was born for that matter. Next we needed to decide which materials to use and there we started to think about the aesthetics and kinetic qualities of the piece. We decided to go with different color, gas filled balloons and a river, the balloons would be tied by a string to some sort of metal piece that would hold the balloons down preventing them to fly away, like this giving the imprecion that the balloons are moving and hovering on the water by themselves, and like this, the river, trees and balloons would all together become the kinetic sculpture piece. This of-course, would be brought to you “the viewer” through picture.
